Meet Our Stockists Series | Rachael Jacobi - The Cloth Stash
Hey fellow cloth lovers! My name is Rachael....better known as Rach, and I am the owner of The Cloth Stash. I’m a mum to boys, Hudson & Eli as well as two dog babies, Pippa & Levi (yes....yes we did have a naming fail naming Eli so close to Levi but we didn’t notice until we brought Eli home from hospital and yes sometimes one gets called the other by mistake ekk).
I am a massive Cronulla Sharks fan (Rugby League) and the day they won their only grand final win was the best day of my life after the birth day’s of my sons. Hubby is totally ok that the day trumps our wedding....he knew I was a crazy Sharks fan before he married me, plus my dress wasn’t finished and I was two hours late to the ceremony.
Before cloth took over my life, I spent lots of time in my garden working on an urban orchid and veggie garden! I also happen to be an Architect.
Tell us a bit about your store and how it came into existence?
I had absolutely no idea about modern cloth nappies until I saw an episode of Shark Tank where a modern cloth nappy brand was featured. At the time I was using two disposables on Hudson at night and I thought this might be the perfect solution to save us some money. I had no idea they were actually better for the environment, I thought the water they used for washing out-weighted any benefit....so wrong! Long story short, we had plenty of cloth fails and so I really wanted to set up a store that offered exactly what I would have loved to have had access to at the start of my cloth journey. So I set up a cloth nappy library and hire packages to help others find their perfect fit without spending all of the $$$ on failed attempts to find the right fit.
Any big plans for the future? Secrets you can share with our Alcmenies?
I do have a collaboration in the works so watch this space!
What are your business ethos?
Honesty is big for me. And providing amazing customer service where I can!
Can you share some advice for families wanting to start using cloth nappies?
My advice is really simple; try before you buy! Oh and try not to get trapped by the cloth nappy addiction, it’s real!
What is your favourite Alcmena print?
Too hard! Let’s say Old Bum Tree for me & Age of Pootron for Eli
How do you fill your own cup?
A catch up with my girls or when I can I head to the beach.
What would be the theme song of your life?
Hands by Jewel.
If you could make a difference in the world, what would you be known for?
I would absolutely love to be a foster mum and Hubby & I are in the middle of the applying for that privilege. I would love nothing more than to love a little person who needs me and possibly make their life a little better.
What is your most treasured possession?
My boys; my big one and my two little ones.
Who or what lights you up?
Hubby. He makes me laugh!
What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?
That’s a hard one. I’m just going to go with recent over the best because honestly I can’t think of one. I have had a few people compliment me on the fact I’m always challenging myself. I’ve never really thought to stop and be a little proud of myself until others pointed out that I should.
What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
I hoard packaging; gift bags, plastic bags, boxes, protective wrapping etc. Not so good at the re-using it part though.
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Potatoes. So versatile!!!
A genie gives you three wishes—what are they?
That my boys grow up healthy and confident in themselves.
That everyone could have the opportunity to grow up in a safe and loving environment.
That we could all click our fingers and arrive at any destination in the word that we wished to visit (probably stems from too many long car trips with kids in the car!).
If life were a video game, what are some cheat codes?
Video games are not my thing....so this is a throwback to the Nintendo I used to play as a child.
Stay away from bad guys and it doesn’t matter how many coins you collect in the process it’s all about surviving whatever gets thrown your way.
What do you wish you knew more about?
The world around me. I tend to be a bit insular and don’t keep myself up to date with what is going on in the world. Too busy enjoying my own little part of it!
Describe yourself in three words?
Fun-loving. Strong. Honest.
