Meet An Alcmenie - Cloth Daddy Edition | Seb Scammell

Dad in the pool having fun with his young children

Hi, I’m Sea-bass. I am a down to earth kind of dude, love a good whisky. I am an upholsterer at Malibu Boats Australian and a self-proclaimed massive nerd. I love video games, anime and comic books as well as fishing and 4 wheel driving haha.
I’m a 27 year old father of 2 (almost 3), am married to Sharlet Scammell & my wife is crazy and does nothing but Alcmena, literally nothing but Alcmena.

What prompted your decision to use cloth nappies?
My wife. I had no interest in cloth nappies and did not want to use them at all, then Sharlet just did and I came around to it eventually. The geeky prints do make it easier.

What has surprised you the most on your cloth journey?
How easy it is! It’s pretty much just the same as using disposables but we’re changing outfits less often because Ruby isn’t shitting out the side of her nappies anymore.

Can you share some advice for dads who might be sceptical about using cloth nappies?

  1. What are you afraid of? Getting your hands dirty?
  2. It is just as easy as disposables, but you have cool as prints.
  3. Apparently it ends up cheaper, but it hasn’t for me yet because Sharlet won’t stop buying the bloody things.

What is your favourite Alcmena print?
I’ve got 3- Baby Finn, Turdis & Super Spraiyan.

Its not very cool, but I really like…
Reading, I love reading. And collecting amibos I guess that’s not very cool haha.

What would be the theme song of your life?
Don’t Stop me Now – Queen
Because its genuinely the truth, I’m just generally having a good time.

If you could make a difference in the world, what would you be known for?
If I could make a difference, I’d like to lower the male suicide rate. If I could be there for everyone when they needed it, I would be. I would also want to make it more acceptable for men to open up about mental health problems in general.

What is your most treasured possession?
A 1L Darwin Stubby that I got from my Godparents when I turned 18. I’ve never opened it (nor do I plan to), but it’s just one of those things.

What's the best mistake you’ve ever made?
One time I was drunk and accidentally poured whisky into my pancake mix and they actually turned out really good. Some might say it was whisky business. Tried to replicate it once, it was not the same haha.

Who or what lights you up?

  1. A good Japanese whisky
  2. My dog, Bushy
  3. I guess I’d better say my kids too.

What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?
I’ve never really been one for compliments but some people say I’m a fast learner.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
That I couldn’t really read or write properly without someone’s help until about 3 years ago.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Ramen. Any type of Ramen, not fussy.

A genie gives you three wishes—what are they?

  1. A never-ending bottle of a nice whisky
  2. To be able to read my favourite book, The Tattooist of Auschwitz, for the first time again
  3. A couple million bucks in my bank account. Actually make it 10-mill so I can sit pretty for the rest of my life.

If life were a video game, what are some cheat codes?
Up up down down left right left right B A Start.

What do you wish you knew more about?
Electrical engineering so I can make cool AF robots.

Describe yourself in three words?
Love-to-learn, Fun & Adventurous.
